Randy Sandel Biography

Randye Sandel graduated from UCLA with a Masters in Fine Art in painting and printmaking in 1969 and has been consistently exhibiting her works from her college days to the present with her first shows at Stanislaus State College, Barnsdale Municipal Art Gallery, and Space Gallery and was reviewed by none other than William Wilson for the LA Times who called her “A master of tone and color”. Randye is best known for her large format paintings that make a statement in any room. She has been featured in numerous one artist exhibitions and is in dozens of public and private collections throughout the United States and Europe. In quick succession she participated in the now famous Market Street Project where ART SCENE published rave reviews. In 1985 she received the “Pick of the Week” in the LA Weekly and received glowing reviews by Kathy Zimmer for Art Scene and by Merle Schipper in IMAGES AND ISSUES. In 1997 Randye’s now well-known LA BLUES series got the cover of ART SCENE magazine and a review by Ray Zone. Then, in 1997, her work was chosen for THE NEW AMERICAN PAINTING JOURNAL and she was included in LA RISING, A History of LA Artists from 1940-1980 by Lyn Kleinholtz. Then, in 2020 she was chosen to be included in the SMITHSONIAN ARCHIVES OF AMERICAN ART.
